The House That Love Built

Building on Our Past...for Our Community's Future

Domestic violence is the most frequent violent crime in Marin County,

as reported by the Marin County Civil Grand Jury in 2010.

Since 1977, Center for Domestic Peace has helped more than 163,000 women and children and more than 28,500 men to end the violence and achieve safe, productive lives. We provide 24-hour hotlines, housing, support groups, and advocacy for victims of domestic violence and their children, as well as violence prevention programs for schools, businesses, state-wide initiatives, and much more.

For more than 34 years, our emergency shelter has provided a safe and secure place for women and children to heal, rest, make plans for the future, and become empowered. In the past 4 years, we have sheltered over 250 women and over 350 children.

Our Challenge: Built around 1930 and in need of significant repair, our shelter received a capital development loan (forgivable at the end of seven years) to renovate, upgrade, and bring to code our existing 16 bed emergency shelter. The loan covers most of the brick and mortar upgrades, but there are many other costs not covered, including repair of the driveway, new toilets and sinks for the bathrooms, flooring materials, landscaping and play equipment for the children, and upgrades to the garage and hotline office.

Our Solution: You. We are offering a once in a lifetime opportunity to directly and tangibly give something meaningful to the hundreds of women and children who come through our shelter each year. You, a group of your friends, your business or club can name one of the items below, and in the process you will be contributing on a much deeper level. The guests in the shelter will know there is a community supporting their journey to heal.  A tasteful plaque with your name will indicate the area you sponsor, and we will also include your name via our website, newsletter, press release, etc. (unless you chose to remain anonymous). In lieu of a tour, you will receive a framed picture of your sponsor area.

Our goal is to raise an additional $190,000 to cover these costs by March 31, 2013.

“The shelter and the people at Center for Domestic Peace helped me see that I was not lazy or dumb, as my children’s father said I was. The last time he beat me up, I lost a baby and I tried to kill myself. I thought I was the problem…if they hadn’t helped me escape and heal and see the truth, I wouldn’t be here today!”
